A brief review of tibial shaft fractures treated using interlocking intramedullary nail

Tibial shaft fractures are treated surgically by different methods. In the last few years interlocking intramedullary nailing has emerged as a gold standard for tibia fracture. The clinical and radiological outcome is better complications like compartment syndrome, neurovascular injuries, infection, non-union relatively less of tibia. use ILIM nail also shows reduce risk reoperation. Nail considered it load sharing device, neutralises both axial torsional deforming forces. Other contributory factors natural process bone healing in case that closed leads to minimum injuries soft tissue, structures hematoma at fracture site. locked proximal distal fragments which decreases prevalence mal-union comminuted fractures. One distinct advantage patients with their early return weight bearing work.
